ART AND FABRIC: PHILLYDA BARLOW

Exploring the density of spaces, creating exuberant shapes and establishing new definitions of sculpting: this is the strength of Phillyda Barlow’s works, displayed until November 2nd at the center of contemporary art Hauser & Wirth in Bruton, Somerset (UK).

The exhibition shows an intense selection of monumental dimensions works built with poor materials such as cardboard, plywood, fabric, canvas and cement realized through large-scale experiments, collage, layers of colours that create abstract and fragile shapes. Monumental sculptures which explore the relationship between material and space that surrounds it.

Wandering in the English exhibition space seems really fun, to welcome the viewer enormous brightly colored suspended pompoms of fabric and then enormous multicolored installations that seem to come from an imaginative wonderland.
Barlow’s art describes the reality like only a visionary artist can do.
