An immersive installation for MiTo Design Connections 2026, where textile, light, and a cosmic imagination come together
For MiTo Design Connections 2026, the l’Opificio showroom at Via Martiri della Libertà 42 in Turin hosts Traiettorie Celesti, an installation by Pepita Design that transforms the space into a suspended visual landscape where design, light and a cosmic imagination meet.
On view from April 4 to 30, the project takes shape from the idea of the comet as a symbol of passage, wonder, and transformation: a moving body that crosses space and leaves behind a luminous trail, fleeting yet unforgettable. From this image emerges an immersive narrative in which furniture becomes experience, pause and vision.
At the center of the scene is Glassa, the armchair designed by Pepita Design, which becomes the gravitational core of the entire installation: a small domestic planet around which signs, reflections, materials and surfaces revolve.
The armchair was conceived through a desire to experiment both formally and functionally. Its doughnut-like silhouette, only apparently simple, conceals a technical complexity involving foam shaping, upholstery work, and the construction of its base. The result is an object that balances two contrasting qualities: on one side an elegant and refined presence, on the other an informal and playful spirit.
Its shape recalls the world of food, evoking softness and lightness, while the pairing with metal introduces a more structured and sophisticated note. It is precisely within this contrast that Glassa defines its identity: an object that invites use while maintaining a strong visual presence.
Dressing the scene is FILIGRANA Comete by l’Opificio, a fabric that interprets the theme of comets in a graphic rather than descriptive way. There is no didactic intention here: the cosmos is evoked through dynamic lines, curved trajectories and luminous signs that suggest movement and lightness.
The fabric thus becomes a true poetic language. Its role goes far beyond decoration, contributing instead to the narrative identity of the installation. In this setting, the furnishing object becomes a point of rest within the journey, a suspended pause in space.
Behind the armchair, reflective steel panels interact with drapes made in the same fabric, creating a refined contrast between technical material and textile material. The steel captures and diffuses light like a cosmic or almost lunar surface, while the fabric introduces a softer, more atmospheric dimension, reminiscent of the intangible tail of a comet.
Completing the composition are circles of plexiglass arranged at different heights, generating concentric light effects that recall galaxies, orbits, and gravitational waves. Light passes through these elements to create reflections and visual stratifications that change according to the viewer’s perspective, making the space dynamic and constantly evolving.
The result is an ethereal and contemporary scenography in which design and cosmic imagination meet not to represent outer space literally, but to evoke it on an emotional level.
With Traiettorie Celesti, l’Opificio renews its participation in the MiTo Design Connections circuit, confirming its Turin showroom as a meeting place for textile, design and visual research.
The installation invites visitors to enter a suspended dimension where fabric interacts with light, matter, and the architecture of the space. It is a project that reveals the evocative power of textile design and its ability to transform interiors into experiences to be lived.
