Jacquard Fabrics and Wool, Silk, Linen and Cotton Velvets: care and maintenance

How to take care of textiles made of natural fibres.

Natural fibres alike wool, silk, cotton and linen, are the threads that l’Opificio prefer to use as they are more welcoming, precious and timeless. They are living fibres that breath and change because of the climate conditions, because of the time passing and therefore requiring a caring maintenance to preserve their beauty.
Their maintenance along the time, the small faults caused by the use or simply by the atmospheric conditions, more humidity or dryness of the interiors they are placed in, all that together make these textiles unique, symbols of a lived-in home.
Even the most refined silk textile will shrink if placed in a very dry environment, and on the contrary it will lengthen in a very humid room.
To maintain your jacquard fabrics and velvets perfectly cleaned and tidy it is necessary to brush them regularly or to use the hoover with the dedicated accessories.
Curtains, upholstery and carpets require dry cleaning. Better to trust in reliable and recognized professionals.

MAINTENANCE of Natural Fibres: THE GOLDEN RULES Talking about textiles for upholstering and interiors the golden rule is: dry cleaning only.
It is important to maintain fabric and velvets in their initial conditions the longest possible.
A new textile requires longer to stain as the final treatments it has undergone preserve it, but the protection washes away at each washing, making it from time to time more vulnerable to the stains.
We suggest to avoid that grey and dirt become too evident before making the appropriate maintenance. It is better to brush regularly your item, almost every week, to eliminate dust that normally gets on the textile, and that could deepen into the weft.
We suggest to use a soft brush avoiding hard brushes which could damage the surface of the fabrics, causing the pilling effect (small dots of thread).
In case of stain, it is suggested to remove the stain from the textile as soon as possible, in this way facilitating the removal itself.
Before attempting to eliminate a stain with the appropriate products, remove the majority of the stain using an absorbent cloth and test the product on a hidden part of the fabric.
On old stains it is suggested to brush or hoover.

WOOL FABRICS AND VELVETS FOR UPHOLSTERY AND INTERIORS
These precious fabrics and velvet require only dry cleaning every 4 or 5 years. It is suggested though, in order to maintain your item unchanged, to gently remove the dust regularly.
SILK FABRICS AND VELVETS FOR UPHOLSTERY AND INTERIORS
These precious velvet and fabrics require only dry cleaning to maintain unchanged the special lustrous and shimmering effect.
LINEN FABRICS AND VELVETS FOR UPHOLSTERY AND INTERIORS
Do not rub the stains, but wipe with a white cloth moisten with water and then dry with a hair dryer.
In case of tapestry or wall coverings, being the linen antistatic, dust doesn’t remain on the fibres. It will be sufficient to brush or hoover regularly and, in case of stains, dry clean with the specific cleaning products.

SOFT FURNISHING: CUSHIONS, BED COVERS, BED SPREADS, POUF AND DÉCOR MATTRESSES
Few and simple rules to follow when cleaning will help you maintaining your l’Opificio item intact.
For the soft furnishing it is suggested dry cleaning only choosing professionals specialized in treating exclusive and precious items.
Bed covers, bed spreads and cushions must be quilted with tacking threads before dry cleaning.
Items made of cotton velvet, when showing marks, should be steamed without laying the iron on it. In this case too, it is suggested to dry clean, in order to maintain as much as possible the light water-and stain- repellent treatment.
