Fabric Stories: how interiors speak about us
Fabric Tells the Story of Home Life An exclusive project born from the collaboration with architect Roberta Borrelli @make_your_home to narrate domestic space and daily life through the evocative potential of skillfully used fabrics in one's home.
The project as told by Roberta: "A unique journey made up of rooms, colors, and textures that guide you in creating a personal styling capable of making the experience of feeling good at home more welcoming and vibrant. The starting point is the analysis of colors and materials already present, with a particular focus on the chromatic distribution of the spaces.
We are in a bright house overlooking greenery. The daytime areas feature neutral walls and beautiful light oak herringbone parquet—a perfect base to welcome fabrics with warm-toned patterns and textures rich in character. For the nighttime area, marked by a dark wall, I envisioned a bright contrast. I, therefore, selected fabrics and colors to create a textile thread that visually unites all the spaces.
"I always design my projects with the goal of visual continuity. Even though each space has its function, I find it fascinating for each room to communicate with the others," says Roberta, founder of Makeyourhomestudio. "In choosing the collections, I let tactile sensations guide me: what do you want to feel when you relax on your sofa? What is the sensation you seek when you hug a pillow on your bed?"
Three rooms, three functions, one chromatic palette that brings together multiple collections.
Color is a powerful design tool that can completely transform a space. The chromatic variation of fabrics is essential for creating environments that reflect our emotions and lifestyle.
Our starting palette has two background colors and one accent color. From beige to rust passing through pink and white, the palette helps to give three-dimensionality to the spaces.
In our living room, the neutral walls harmonize with the curtains and sofas, creating a base that welcomes the warm colors of decorative fabrics. Roberta chose shades of rust to evoke a warm and welcoming atmosphere, ideal for relaxing around the fireplace on colder evenings.
The palette transforms in the dining area, where pink and burgundy intertwine in a chromatic combination that Roberta describes as "very interesting and unexpected". A play of colors that not only enriches the space but also stimulates conversation and appetite.
Finally, the bedroom becomes a sanctuary of tranquility, with fabrics embracing shades of orange, beige, and white, amplifying the natural light and creating a serene and relaxing environment to retreat to at the end of the day. Each room offers a unique story, told through the colors and patterns chosen by Roberta.
The journey through the rooms and colors concludes by exploring the delicate play of textures that Roberta has studied to add harmony and create details. The choice of textures aims not only to create a visually pleasing ensemble but also to generate positive sensations of welcoming and familiarity of the spaces.
VOCALESE Treccia, designs inspired by the various traditional glassworking techniques of Murano by FILIGRANA, the grid pattern of GRID: each selected fabric adds emphasis, stimulates the senses, and leads to a tactile and not just visual desire. The choice of textures is dictated by the sensation you want to feel by performing certain gestures within the domestic space.
"Through imagination, I sat on a velvet sofa, warm, soft, and silky, and hugged a grainy pillow that stimulated my relaxation."
Often not considered enough in interior design, the skillful use of textile textures is strategic to give three-dimensionality to space, create light and shadow effects, and focal points in the environments. "I prefer to combine different textures with colors in a palette, I find it a great way to create dynamics without exceeding, for me who loves minimalism and for all those who fear making mistakes by mixing different elements," explains Roberta.
