Designer of the Year 2024: Mathieu Lehanneur

The French visionary, Mathieu Lehanneur, has been named Designer of the Year 2024. Known for his multidisciplinary approach—collaborating closely with scientists and startups to merge design with technology, art, and craftsmanship—Lehanneur designed the Olympic and Paralympic torches for the Paris 2024 Games. He is the mastermind behind the outdoor-inspired installation, Outonomy, which encapsulates the essence of escape, takeoff, breath, and life. "The project is grounded in the idea of independence and freedom, far from noise and density, towards somewhere else to invent and reinvent oneself. Outonomy is a living ecosystem, both minimal and optimal," explains Lehanneur. "It’s a dialogue with civilization and architecture's history of isolated dwellings: the igloo, the hut, the yurt. The challenge is to align our needs with current technologies. Far from nostalgic or a retreat to the past, Outonomy aims to answer: What do I truly need?"
